UUMA Nominating Committee

Are you called to lead, grow, and serve our UUMA and our faith? You may be the person the Nominating Committee is seeking.

We know you have hopes and dreams for our association and our faith. You can help lead the way toward making them real. Your contribution to our evolving collective wisdom can help us to become all that we long to be, together. If you are called to lead in this way, the opportunity awaits.

As you already know if you have served at the chapter level or on a continental UUMA committee, the benefits flow both ways: leaders develop their professional skills, forge more profound connections to colleagues, feel closer to the source of their calling, and deepen their understanding of their faith. If you would like to grow in these ways, say yes to UUMA leadership. Your passion for our faith and colleagues will inspire you on the journey.

The past few years have been tumultuous and promising ones for Unitarian Universalism. In the UUMA, in the UUA, and in the settings where we serve, we as religious leaders have been striving and stretching to live into the call for justice, integrity and love. If you know that you were called to the ministry for just such a time as this, we want you. Commitment like yours will help all of us to be the leaders our movement, and our world, need right now.

Positions Open in June 2020

Board: Treasurer
              Trustee, Anti-racism/Anti-Oppression/Multiculturalism
              Trustee, Governance

Trustees provide visionary leadership for the UUMA and ensure that the vision is realized in a responsible manner. All Board members attend three face-to-face meetings per year (October, March, June), two conference call meetings, and additional conference calls for duties connected with individual responsibilities for a commitment of an additional 6-10 hours/month. They communicate often between meetings, and are present at many meetings throughout Ministry Days and General Assembly. All are three-year terms.

Treasurer: Serves as overseer of the finances of the UUMA, offers direction on budget issues and decisions, and provides financial guidance as needed/requested.

Trustee, Anti-racism/Anti-Oppression/Multiculturalism: Works with the Board to sustain focus on anti-racism, anti-oppression and multiculturalism as essential components of effective and excellent ministry.

Trustee, Governance: Maintains Board focus on governance policies, including monitoring, and linkage to members and stakeholders.

Nominating Committee (two positions)

The Nominating Committee recruits and selects nominees for UUMA elected leadership, and strives to balance demographic factors such as gender, gender orientation, ethnicity, abilities, cultural competency, age, geography, and ministry type. Members hold 12 conference call meetings each year in addition to meeting during Ministry Days. Each has additional responsibilities such as recruiting calls. Time commitment: 1-3 hours/month. Three-year term.

All colleagues nominated to serve the UUMA in elected positions must meet the following minimum qualifications:

  • be a UUMA member in good standing
  • be in Full Fellowship through the Ministerial Fellowship Committee
  • have experience and knowledge of anti-racism, anti-oppression and multiculturalism efforts of the UUMA and the UUA, and demonstrate a strong commitment to dismantling white supremacy in our movement
  • have previous UUMA chapter level leadership or service on a UUMA committee. Previous UUMA training is also a plus.

To apply for nomination to any of the above positions, please complete the Leadership Application by January 15, 2020.
