The Ministerial Formation Network is pleased to announce the 2020-21 series of Virtual Retreats for Aspirants and Candidates for Unitarian Universalist Ministry. As our Unitarian Universalist congregations and communities continue to adjust and grow in the midst of the pandemic, we seek to create memorable and meaningful opportunities for discernment, collegiality, and learning for those who are preparing for a life in ministry. We will be on Zoom for approximately 10 hours of programming over the days noted, so please note that access to the internet will be necessary for participation.

Registration is limited to 25 people per retreat, as we strive to create an intimate yet manageable experience using an online format.  Retreats are open to those enrolled in the MFN.  To enroll in the MFN requires being an Aspirant or a Candidate for the Unitarian Universalist ministry and a member in good standing of the UUMA. (If you are not yet a member and would like to become one, please click here.) MFN participants are invited to one free retreat per year.*

*Note: If you are a new MFN participant who wants to participate in the Winter Intern retreat for people of marginalized identities, and you wish to attend one of the fall retreats as well, please contact Steven Leigh Williams, Collegial Care Assistant.

Theme:  Tradition & Transformation
As Unitarian Universalists respond to the callings of our times, how do our traditions inform our future?  In what ways do we need to grieve and change “the way we've always done it”?  What are you called to create in your ministry moving forward?  Programming will include a focus on sacred stories, conflict, and systemic change.

Winter  2021 Specialized Retreat Program

If you are a MFN participant who is interning this year and identify as POCI, disabled, trans and/or non-binary, we invite you to register for this free retreat, along with your supervisor. The retreat will be held online. We’ll spend time during the retreat all together, as breakout groups of supervisors and interns and in intern/supervisor pairs.

Programming for interns will focus on:

  • relationship building
  • spiritual practice
  • discernment and formation
  • support navigating dynamics of systemic oppression in your internship
  • building capacity for resilience and strengthening networks of support

Programming for internship supervisors will focus on:

  • supervision across difference
  • noticing and understanding the impact that systemic oppression may have upon the intern and the internship and developing capacity for support and response
  • planning to bring the learning back home, especially to internship committees

In community ministry, there can be complex webs of accountability, authority and responsibility. How do our inner resources, collegial connections, and professional obligations meet and merge through the fellowshipping process and in diverse vocational fields?

Summer 2021 Open Retreat

June/July 2021

Ministry Days Adjacent or Online – date/time details TBA

Theme:  Life Calls Us On!
Where are we? What calls us forward? In January 2021 we will be assessing the schedule for this mid 2021 gathering and if an in person or online event will be advised.

(Note: This event is not on the Fall 2020 retreat application form; we will be in communication as plans are clarified!)
