UUMA Sustainability Fund: Take a Break for Sustainability's Sake
The UUMA exists to call forth courageous and transformative ministries empowered by love, committed to collective liberation …. Because we need one another. During these challenging times we need one another more than ever. By providing access to Sustainability Funding and Virtual Guest in the Pulpit, the UUMA Sustainability Project offers practical financial support and endeavors to make it easier for ministers who are seeking pulpit coverage to connect with potential guests. Our gratitude to Kimberly Debus who initiated the creation of such a database and for giving that initial list over to our care.
The Sustainability Fund provides small grants intended specifically for self-care and spirit tending - in whatever way is needed. The funds are available to UUMA members who are being especially impacted by the pandemics of COVID-19, racism, and oppression including Black, Indigenous, and People of Color, Trans/Non-Binary and Disabled members, members who are actively caregiving children or elders, community ministers, members who are unemployed or underemployed, and ministers in congregations that have had significant budget cuts due to the impact of the virus. We request that you do not apply for these funds unless you are in need.
If you are in need, we encourage you to ask.
All requests that meet the criteria will be granted until funds are exhausted. The only criteria are that: 1. Your identity, ministry context or experience is named in the list above and 2. you are asking because you could really use the support to sustain yourself and your ministry. We are not asking for any detailed statements and will not be monitoring how these funds are used, but we are clear that our intent is for individuals to use them for self-care/sustainability. Some of the ways you might do that include: using the funds to take a day off from your ministry (we are thinking especially of ministers who do not have adequate paid time off and could use the funds to offset an unpaid day off), to pay for pulpit supply/tech support to take a Sunday off, to hire a babysitter if that is possible in your location, to take an overnight retreat if that is possible in your location, to purchase materials to support your spiritual practice, to get a couple of extra therapy, spiritual direction, body work, etc. sessions, We want you to determine what you need most to take care of yourself and tend your spirit.
In addition to these small grants up to $500 per person, we also want to make connections between ministers who are looking for people to preach and provide other ministerial services and those who would like to be called upon for that work. If you are seeking ministerial coverage or are able to provide those services please visit one of the links below for full details.
