After a series of painful expressions of ableism at Ministry Days 2016, the UUMA Board of Trustees charged the Executive Director to conduct an ableism audit and create processes "to insure that the UUMA's attention to and knowledge of these issues (not only at Ministry Days but at all UUMA programs and in chapter life) increases sufficiently so that substantive changes can be made and our welcome to and inclusion of colleagues with disabilities can flourish."

The members of the Ableism Task Force were charged with reviewing existing ableism practices and processes throughout the UUMA and recommending ways to build awareness and to change/improve those practices and processes in the future. Members of the Task Force spent a full year in study and reflection and have submitted their final report. We urge all UUMA members to give thoughtful attention to their recommendations and to stay tuned for more information about how you can participate in the New Metaphor Challenge!
