The UUMA and the Unitarian Universalist Society for Community Ministries (UUSCM) have been in conversation about ways our two organizations can work together for mutual benefit and in support of the health of all our ministries. Back in 2012, a Summit was held between UUMA and UUSCM to explore areas of potential collaboration, as well as areas of distinctive concern. Darrick and I have recently been acquainted with the outcomes of that Summit and have also met with UUSCM President Cat Cox to learn about the places where our organizations overlap and might most fruitfully collaborate. One of those areas of overlap is in membership: there are a number of UU ministers who are members of both the UUMA and the UUSCM. In recognition of the benefits that accrue to community ministers who elect membership in both organizations, we do offer a discount on our UUMA dues for people who also pay dues to belong to UUSCM. This joint letter describes more of the benefits community ministers might find by being a member of both organizations, as well as the resources available to parish ministers who choose to connect with UUSCM by becoming a Friend of Community Ministry.
