Ministry Days 2020

Even though it’s only November, I hope you are thinking of coming to our Ministry Days in Providence, RI, June 22-24, 2020: Faith Empowering Resilience. Over the past few years we have been experimenting with the schedule and programming for our time together and 2020 will be no different! We recognize that many of you arrive at Ministry Days both excited to connect with colleagues and exhausted from a full year of ministry. To honor this, be more inclusive, and to combat our need to ‘do it all’, we are lightening the schedule for our precious time together. As you have already read - we are splitting the business meeting into two parts – one in mid-June and the other when we are together in Providence. We will have a robust capability for colleagues to join us via electronic media and expect this to broaden the participation.

This year our Monday opening reception will begin with an afternoon of Family Fun time (4:30-6:30) and Ingathering Worship Service (6:30-7:00). We plan to begin a little earlier, have a family friendly venue, and once again welcome our newest members and dedicate our newest children. When making your travel plans please consider arriving in time to participate. If you are looking for opportunities to meet your Continuing Education requirement you might even consider arriving on Sunday night so that you can take one of the Monday morning CEU programs (stay tuned for details).

Based on your feedback, the Executive Staff and the Board of Trustees are re-envisioning Tuesday. We will begin with a worship and keynote based on the theme, enjoy a simple lunch together, resume the second portion of our Annual Meeting, and then have our traditional time with the UUA President. Mark your calendars for Annual Meeting part #1 (It really is THURSDAY, June 11, 2020 at 1pm EST). It will be recorded and available for viewing if you can’t make it. Tuesday evening will offer opportunities for small group connection, a program to honor the 200th anniversary of the first Berry Street Essay, and a game night in the UUMA Café.

We have opened the Wednesday schedule up a bit and will begin with morning Spiritual Practices. While the Collegial Choir will once again sing, the 25/50 service has been reimagined so as to honor all of the colleagues in a unique way this year. All celebrants are invited to write a reflection on their ministry, which will be woven into the liturgy and shared in a publication. We hope to have as many class members on stage as possible and look forward to creating a service that will truly honor their collective contributions to our faith. The service will have a later start time of 10:00 AM and we will offer coffee and a small snack at 9:30 for those who wish to arrive early.

Stay tuned for more information. It promises to be a wonderful few days together.

See you there!
