The Unitarian Universalist Church of Worcester is offering a FREE eight week series of workshops on

RACISM and WHITE PRIVILEGE.

DESCRIPTION: These workshops are primarily focused on helping white people understand the racial component of their identity, and how to live with authenticity and integrity as a white person in a society grounded in white supremacy.

Racism is the source of much confusion among white folks because there are so many definitions and conceptions of what it is and what it is not. We work through what the role of white people can or should be in racial justice movements, and what it means to be in solidarity with people of color and what it looks like to exhibit ally behavior. Our format is highly interactive, we break down into small groups and we discuss situations and responses – ie – things we commonly hear, but are sometimes frustrated in responding to in an effective fashion.

We will form a covenant in the beginning to assure emotional safety and guidelines for interactions. Part of this covenant is to commit to coming to all/most of the sessions since each workshop builds on previous ones.

DATES: Sundays 12 noon – 2 pm on Feb 10, 17, 24, March 3, 10, 17, 24, 31.

PLACE: The Lounge – Unitarian Universalist Church of Worcester 90 Holden St at Shore Drive, next to Bancroft School

LEADER: Ken Wagner is a Unitarian Universalist who has long been involved in the fight for racial justice. He is a founding member of the New England Region’s Antiracism/ Anti-oppression Team. He is currently president of Allies for Racial Equality and travels throughout New England to discuss issues of race and white supremacy.

COST: These workshops are FREE!

Please invite members and friends of your community to come! It promises to be a dynamic, insightful and skill-enriching experience! THANK YOU!
