|From the Executive Director|
This month is the last review of our comprehensive survey results from last fall. In the week after Ministry Days and GA, when I had the chance to interact with so many of you, it seems you are happy with the continuing education we are offering. And for those of you who weren’t able to come to Ministry Days this year, you should know that your colleagues were thinking of you. For the first time we had a Ministry Days offering for our continuing education scholarship fund. We raised over $12,000!! This will allow us to give even more support to colleagues who wish to attend the next Institute for Excellence in Ministry in February.
This month we are inviting you to fill out several applications and surveys. Our next Beyond the Call program on entrepreneurial ministry is ready for your application: click here. We expect this to be a popular program so start working on your application ASAP and make sure it’s in by September 15. We are continuing to ask for your feedback on how we can best enhance your mentoring skills and talents. We plan on beginning mentoring skill-building in the fall and you have one more month to tell us what you’d like. We are also asking if you would like to work with a coach in 2015 OR if you’d like to join our next coaching team/training that will be ready later this year.
In the weeks ahead you can look for an application to be a trained facilitator for our next UUMA-wide conversation, Where Leads Our Call? (the training will be held in November) and an opportunity to be one of our first Good Officer Regional Resource Specialists (on transitions). You’ll hear more information about both opportunities and applications will be ready on or before August 1.
At our booth in General Assembly we had a poster that described our vision for the arc of UUMA continuing education - from seminary to retirement. In five short years we have gone from offering CENTER Day and Chapter Presenters to a vast array of offerings including the Institute for Excellence in Ministry, CENTER Presenter programs, Beyond the Call, coaching, mentoring and UUMA-wide conversations that give everyone an opportunity to continue to develop the skills of ministry. We have some more things to do (strengthen what we offer those in or near retirement, provide mentoring to seminarians) but with your help we can make the vision a reality. Thank you for another great year for the UUMA…I look forward to what’s next!
What I don’t look forward to is Jennifer Channin’s departure as our UUMA Program Coordinator on August 1. Jennifer has been my partner in programming (with our CENTER team) for the last two years and has been a key contributor to the design and implementation of many programs, especially coaching and Beyond the Call. We wish her well in her new position as Assistant Minister at the First Unitarian Universalist Congregation of San Diego. Our multi-talented Office Assistant, Allison Palm, will be stepping in to work 3/4 time as our first Program Assistant on August 1. Good luck Jennifer!!
