What is the Beyond the Call program?

Beyond the Call (BTC) is a program jointly developed by the UUA and UUMA designed to provide UUMA members in final fellowship a chance for in-depth study, ongoing collegial reflection and engagement in a critical area of advanced ministerial competence.

Our first class of 18 colleagues is about to complete a 2-year study of Preaching and the Worship Arts. As part of Beyond the Call, they attend four retreats in different locations and participate in regular conference calls with their Deans between retreats.

During the 2nd year of Beyond the Call, the Preaching & Worship Arts class is expanding the reach of the program by facilitating monthly small groups with UUMA colleagues. Currently, 12 small groups are meeting via monthly videoconference to explore topics such as:
  • The identity of the minister as worship leader.
  • Crafting Ritual and Liturgy.
  • Multigenerational and Collaborative Worship.
  • Community Traditions and Holidays.

After this 2-year program ends, class members will be available as Preaching and Worship Arts coaches to their colleagues.
The next Beyond the Call class will be on the topic of Entrepreneurial Ministry. For more information, click here.
