|Deepening: Clergy Renewal and Continuing Education|
Program and Goals
The UUA, UUMA and UURMaPA are pleased to be partnering with LeaderWise in the design and delivery of the program. LeaderWise, formerly known as North Central Ministry Development Center, has over forty-five years of experience providing psychological and leadership development resources to community leaders in the Upper Midwest. In 2010, they broadened their mission beyond seminarians and clergy to encompass all community leaders; and, in 2015, the board adopted the following guiding principle to inform their purpose and work, “LeaderWise fosters healthy and spirit-filled individuals and communities for lives of service.”
In preparation for the program, participants will complete three consultations: a physical exam with their physician, a leadership assessment with a LeaderWise consultant, and a financial check up with a financial advisor who will work with participants to review their current financial situation and advise for the future.
The program will include three retreats. Retreats will include spiritual practice, group exercise, learning opportunities, structured conversations and opportunities for deepening collegial bonds.
Between retreats, each participant will take part in a monthly peer-led community of practice group with others who are in a similar stage in ministry.
The first retreat will be held August 3-5, 2018 somewhere in the vicinity of Baltimore. The second mini-retreat will be in Spring 2019 and the closing retreat will be held in the Winter in 2020. Dates for the second and third retreats will be determined by August 2018.
Thanks to generous funding support from the UUA, and the Unitarian Universalist Funding Panel, the cost for this pilot program will be $2,000 per participant. The program fee includes assessment inventories and food and lodging at the retreats but does not include travel. Scholarships or travel subsidies are available. Unitarian Universalist ministers who have Preliminary or Final Fellowship or who have retired are welcome to apply for this program. For the purposes of our own evaluation of this pilot, priority will be given to clergy serving in the Central East Region. Any spots that are not filled by clergy in the Central East Region will be open to clergy from other regions. We have 12 spaces available in each of our four ministry stage cohorts. The deadline to apply is December 15; applicants will be notified by January 15.
