Frederic Henry Hedge Prize

The Unitarian Universalist Christian Fellowship, founded 1945, www.uuchristian.org, is soliciting manuscripts for the 2008 Frederic Henry Hedge Prize in Unitarian Universalist Christian Church history. The prize consists of a $500 cash award and publication of the essay in The Unitarian Universalist Christian.

The topic of the paper should consist of significant scholarship relating to Unitarian Universalist Christian Church history. Suitable topic include biography, theology, and institutions. Non- North American focus is welcomed. Reformation history or Early Church history could be the focus as long as it relates to the development of Unitarian Universalist Christianity.

The competition is open to Unitarian Universalist seminarians, graduate students and clergy. YOU DO NOT HAVE TO BE IN SEMINARY. Papers should be 10 to 20 pages, typed double-spaced, and include a bibliography. References may appear as footnotes or endnotes. The author's name should appear on the cover page only, as the essays will be evaluated anonymously. Entries submitted in previous years may be resubmitted.

The submitted essays should be in publishable or near publishable form. Entries will be judged on the originality of the scholarly contribution, the relevance for contemporary Unitarian Universalist Christianity, the quality of writing and communications. The judges reserve the right not to award a prize. Four hard copies, and an electronic version, should be submitted by May 1, 2008. No late entries will be accepted. The prize will be presented at General Assembly.
