Dear UUMA Member,
Happy March!  Februrary was a good month for the UUMA.  We celebrated a historic event, the first UUMA CENTER Institute for Excellence in Ministry.  If you were there you know the weather was divine and, from what you have told us, the Institute exceeded your expectations.  If you weren't there we will have videos of most of the worship and the two panel discussions on our website by the end of the month.  Audios and study guides of half the seminars will be available later in the spring.  The second Institute will be at the Sirata Resort on St. Pete Beach in Florida from January 28- February 1, 2013.  More details about the next Institute will be available at Ministry Days in Charolotte but put it on your calendar today!

Another reason February was a good month is because we survived while half of our staff was on sabbatical.  Janette is back from five weeks singing and networking in Europe this week and thanks to your patience and her good coaching, we are not too far behind.  Why is this a milestone for us?  Because it is a sign of our maturation as an organization.  One of my many goals is to to work with Janette and the Executive Committee to strengthen our organizational health.  We have much to do but we are moving in the right direction.

Another good sign is that our budget is on track to finish the year strong.  This is the first year of a significant dues increase and we are at a higher level of dues paid this year than we were at the same time last year.  (Some of the nicest words that I overheard at the Institute were variations of "I'm so glad we raised our dues so we could do something like this.")  This is testimony to your commitment to a stronger UUMA and is one of the reasons that I agreed to stay on as the permanent Executive Director beginning (officially) on July 1.

There are other great signs.  The 2011 Association Sunday for professional development programming and scholarships; the ongoing work of the coaching/mentoring task force; the Whose Are We? chapter essay and sermon contest that begins on April 1; the buzz created from the Institute and the requests we received from musicians and seminar leaders to come back and spend more time with us; and this month we will be surveying  other UU professional organizations to look for ways we can partner even more effectively than we do today.   You get the picture.  Good things are going on and as we find ways to get more members involved in UUMA  service and leadership and continue to strengthen our programming, organizational development and financial health we can make sure we more fully serve all our members.

March is here and soon spring will be too.  I hope you don't mind that we at the UUMA are blossoming a little early.
May the spring bring sunshine and not too much rain to your life and ministry.  Thank you for your commitment to do this work even when the ground and hearts seem too frozen for the seeds you plant to take hold.

Association Sunday 2011 - Celebrating Excellence in Ministry
The Fifth Annual Association Sunday's focus will be on Celebrating Excellence in Ministry.  The UUMA will be partnering with the UUA and other religious professional organizations to raise money to support excellence in ministry which is crucial to a vibrant, successful and growing Unitarian Universalism.  Donations to Association Sunday 2011 will support a comprehensive assessment of our needs, continuing education programs and scholarship funds to help all religious professionals.  October 2, 2011 is the target date and the UUMA will be working closely with the UUA in planning  to raise as much money as possible while having fun too.  Click here to learn more about Association Sunday 2011 and to sign your congregation up to participate.  We will be sending out more information to help your planning and asking for your help in our planning soon.
