Morning Topic: (from 10:45- 12:45) We will continue the lively dialogue we began at our January meeting, “Where Spirit and Justice Meet” - Exploring Nonviolent Direct Action and Responding in Uncertain Times. (Many folks requested a "Part Two" and we're doing our best to make that happen!)
In this new era of uncertain but worrisome times, how can we find ways to resist and respond pro-actively which reflect a paradigm of inclusion and compassion? UU congregations and leaders have been a part of a number of efforts from immigration and restorative justice to Standing Rock and Black Lives Matter support. This is an opportunity for dialogues on direct action, community building and nonviolence and some reflection on moving forward.
Long time Cambridge peace and justice activist and former City Peace Commission director, Cathy Hoffman has been part of local struggles against neighborhood gentrification, and for restorative justice, community building and nonviolence. (She is part of solidarity efforts with El Salvador and Palestine through sistering projects which build political awareness through human relationships.) Committed to nonviolence as the antidote to our culture of separation, Cathy has been a nonviolence trainer for many decades most recently with the Resist The Pipeline effort in West Roxbury. She has enjoyed the companionship of UU communities and is blessed to have been at Standing Rock and living in the moment of this sacred and transforming witness.
Afternoon Topic: A Spiritual Odyssey by Ken Sawyer (from 1:30 - 2:30 PM)
Our Clara Barton colleagues are warmly invited to join us!
