Hello, SEUUMA Colleagues!

It’s time to make plans to attend the Southeast UUMA Retreat at The Mountain. Please note that because of the US Presidential elections, the retreat is one week later than usual.

The program this Fall, “Returning to Ritual,” will be presented by The Reverend Mark Morrison-Reed. Mark writes, “Inspired by my experience with ritual in India, at the Tsubaki Grand Shrine in Japan and with Swiss farmers I ask "What is ritual? And what role does it play in your life?" The answer to these questions will lead us into a look at the evolution of ritual within Unitarian Universalism. What are UU practices when it comes to ritual? How has it changed in recent years? Why it is transforming what it means to be UU and religious? And what might our next step be?” The retreat will include worship, short lectures, discussion, exercises, and small group work.

Retired from Unitarian Universalist parish ministry, Mark is an affiliated faculty member at Meadville Lombard Theological School and the coordinator of the Sankofa Archive there. He is the author or editor of several books, including Black Pioneers in a White Denomination and In Between: Memoir of an Integration Baby.

To register, please go directly to The Mountain’s website, http://themountainrlc.org/event/seuuma-fall/, and follow their instructions to Log In, etc. If you have not created a Mountain online account before, you will need to do that first. Once into the system, select the Retreat button to find our SEUUMA event (not the Program button). This all will make sense once you begin.

Worship opportunities exist! In keeping with previous retreat schedules, we will offer 30-minute morning and evening worship services. Please email Alison Eskildsen (rev.eskildsen@uuathensga.org) to express your interest and day/time.

A complete schedule of activities will be sent to you closer to the Retreat date, but will be similar to previous retreats. We aim to balance social and educational time with spiritual and rejuvenation time.

Fall is beautiful at The Mountain. Please make every effort to join us!
