Prairie Star UUMA Chapter Retreat

“Ahhh.” That was the first poem. (Lucille Clifton)

Good (and patient) colleagues,

Our fall meeting is fast approaching. In response to concerns raised

by some of us PRAIRIEWOODS was able to accommodate our

request to switch back to a Monday-Wednesday schedule, rather than

the Tuesday-Thursday previously announced. If you are new to our

Prairie Star Chapter, please plan to arrive for lunch at noon on

Monday. All others are welcome to arrive beginning at 3:00 on

Monday. We will conclude our time together with noon lunch

on Wednesday.

We will retreat this year into the realm of poetry—from discontent to

solace, wonder to rage, lamentation to thanksgiving and all between.

In small groups and as a whole we will come to know one another

and ourselves more deeply through close reading/hearing/sitting

with the poems we love best or the ones that currently hold us in

thrall. Please bring along one poem that fits either category (the one

you love best or one that is haunting you for the time).

We will worship together and also conduct the business of the

chapter—elections and consideration of a budget. There will be

free time for conversation, rest, walking on the center grounds. A

resource table/wall will be available for all those poems that aren’t

the one but simply insist on being shared.

Our refreshments this year will be BYOBWSCTP&S (bring your own

beer, wine, coffee, tea, pop and snacks) to share! This will allow us to

have what we crave and (we hope) also have fewer leftovers to divide

up at the end.
