Statement of Purpose and Priorities
Purpose: The Committee on Ministry works to strengthen the ministry
of the UUMA by assisting the UUMA in becoming and remaining an anti-racist,
anti-oppressive, and multicultural organization with particular attention to
racial, cultural, ethnic, and economic oppressions. It will monitor and assess UUMA programs and
practices for instances of intentional and/or unintentional oppressions, and
provide analysis, assessment, advocacy and education on issues related to
anti-racism, anti-oppression and multiculturalism. Our core functions are as follows:
- Recommend and
review programs and proposals intended to effectively address oppressions and
promote multiculturalism within the leadership and body of the UUMA, in
collaboration with the UUMA Board.
- Establish and
maintain a collaborative working relationship with Good Offices.
- Consult as needed
with the Committee on Ethics & Collegiality on behalf of specific cases
that pertain to ARAOM issues.
- Maintain ongoing
relationship with the UUA, Staff, and other stakeholder groups about issues
experienced by UUMA members in matters that relate to ARAOM.
- Review and advise
CENTER on programs intended to educate the UUMA constituency in ways of
combating oppressions while enhancing and celebrating multiculturalism.
- Work with the Board of Trustees and the Nominating Committee to elicit possible candidates for
recruitment to UUMA committees and report such to the UUMA Board.
